1. Education and Experience. High school graduation or equivalent, plus four (4) years landscape maintenance experience. Supervisory experience a plus; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Necessary Skills and Knowledge. Strong emphasis on turf management including the application of fertilizer, herbicide, pesticides and fungicides. Maintenance and troubleshooting irrigation systems including basic hydraulics, design principles, matched precipitation rates, and programming. Tree and plant care, including pruning. Knowledge of: proper techniques in caring for maintenance of equipment, proper use and hazards of operation; department policies and procedures; basic spelling, and grammar. Basic skills in mechanics, and use of hand tools and equipment. Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making recommendations. Ability to supervise and delegate assignments to other employees. Some knowledge of budget processes; communicate effectively with coworkers and subordinates. Deal with public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner at all times. Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
3. Special Qualifications. Must have valid Utah Driver License.
Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent and Golf Professional, performs a series of skilled duties related to the maintenance of the golf course.
Cooperates with department members and other city departments to complete various types of projects. Trains subordinates in equipment usage and maintenance techniques. Participates directly in the actual work and preparation of projects.
Supervises the efforts of part-time, seasonal and sometimes full-time workers to accomplish department goals. Conducts employee performance evaluations. Performs regular risk management inspections of golf course maintenance equipment.
Performs skilled maintenance activities varying with area of assignment, including maintaining golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs, sand traps, and equipment etc. Other areas of supervision may include grounds and landscaping, including planting, fertilizing and trimming trees and shrubs, performing weed abatement and pest control, programming and troubleshooting irrigation systems, repairing waterlines and turf renovation. Oversees quality control for landscaping, mowing, general turf care. Performs the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems including troubleshooting and fixing all issues related to the irrigation system.
Supervises the installation, take down, and storage of Festival of Lights in Canyon View Park. Operates various types of heavy equipment such as back hoes, tractors, trucks, and all types of small equipment, such as mowers, sod cutters, aerators, etc. Performs routine maintenance on equipment to assure efficient and safe operation.
Performs all duties associated with cleaning and maintenance of golf course maintenance building.
Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.
Performs other duties as assigned.
